Well it's about gal dang time!!
![]() After a good week of craigslist hunting we found us a boat we like! She's just a 14' Tacker flat bottom jon boat for now, but she's soon to be bass boat-a-fide with a casting deck and carpet. She's a bit a of project to get her how we want it, but the real deal maker was the motor: A 15 HP four stroke 2001 Yamaha in damn near mint condition. Factory grease under the hood is still clean and new. It was 15 years newer than 95% of all the other motors we saw. Soon to be mounted on the front is a 47lb thrust Minn Kota troll motor: also like new. No fish finders yet, but they're not a necessity on the lakes we fish. Bought it all for $2500, basically bought the motor and a free boat came with it! lol I'll add day-time pics tomorrow when we get the bow mount on her. p.s. The past two days we bought this truck, and an s10 pick up. Both of the owners before us (of the truck and boat) are moving to FLORIDA!

Nice looking little rig. I had a 14' Lowe Jon that worked really well for smaller lakes with a 15hp Johnson tiller drive. Little boat would cruise pretty good when it wasn't too loaded down. Getting off the bank is one of the greatest feelings there is in fishing I think.

Congrats on the sweet rig. Sounds like you got a good deal. Have fun fixing it up. Can't wait to see the finished project!

Thanks guys, really excited about getting it on the water and the modifications. We've gotta make a mount for the trolling motor, so first thing's first. We also need a battery charger before we take it on the water as well. Once we get it on the water we'll decided what kind of modifications we wanna make regarding a casting deck and storage.
Dad's just insured "to the hilt" as he said. Covers stolen gear, and all that jaz.

Watch the weather and be careful... flat bottoms and heavy swells don't mix well.

Took her out for a primarily run yesterday. We got on the lake put the trolling motor down and she wouldn't start. Me and my dad tinkered around with the electrical and nothing worked so we just deiced to make the most of it and drift down and fish with the wind. Long story short I called a buddy and he brought his battery over and hooked it up and she ran. Needless to say I'm glad it wasn't the electrical and trolling motor that was broke.

long story short always test everything before you leave the house buy a cheap battery tester and spare fuses better to do better to break down at home then on the lake welcome to the proud world of boat ownership

Yeah, moral of the story right there! We're heading to the Wolf River tomorrow, definitely gonna make sure everything's running right BEFORE we leave.

Outboard flushing muffs allow you to run the outboard in your driveway... an invaluable home boating tool.

Congrats to you Sammy. Fine looking rig to set up the way YOU want it.
Rule 1 - check plug before launching Rule 2 - have spare plug

I heard that you should run a new battery dead the first few times you use it. Anyone else hear of that?

Some other kinds of batteries benefit from being drained completely and recharged all the way back up a couple of times. Boat batteries aren't one of those kinds.....
