Looks like it would be a bulky knot - possibly not good with micro guides??? I still like a double uni-knot.

Why would you carry Chapstick to lube a knot when spit is cheaper, readily available, doesn't melt in the sun and you won't leave it in your pants (or shirt) pocket to make a mess in the dryer? Don't ask me about the last one, well OK... EVERY stick of Chapstick I've ever had ends up there.

I must be the only guy alive still using the blood knot. Anyways, it's an interesting knot. But I agree with Bruce. Looks bulky, and why not use spit?

I would imagine Chap Stick would not dry quickly and thus would contribute to the knot being more slippery than if saliva was used as a lubricant.

HOW LONG does it take to tie a friggin' knot? You only need to lube a knot when cinching it down... 2 seconds??? The other negative?? the main ingredient in lip balm is petrolatum - a petroleum based waxy substance. Petroleum may weaken nylon (mono) and flurocarbon lines. I'm no chemist, but I've seen numerous postings on internet sites (bonjour) that any oil based product is bad for fishing line. That would include lip balm if that is a fact.

Now I have niether tried the knot nor Chap Stick but seeing the site is SEAGUAR who makes every component of thier line I would have to assume they wouldn't recomend something that would hurt the line?

I use that to Keith.
Looks like a very easy knot to tie. I hate tying a bloodknot because of my fingers being as they are. Thanks Joe.

I think he means that after the knot is tied, the knot would still be slippery, so it might fail. At least, that's what I think he may be saying.

I used to use the blood knot, and still do use it for joining main line to backing that will be reeled down into the spool. For leaders, I have been using the modified albright knot (Alberto knot). I have found this knot to be superior for passing through line guides and man is it strong. You should give it a try, just google search for it.

I agree. Also I found the Alberto knot much more microguide friendly compared to the uni to uni knot.

I use #40 braided line and tie the Palomar knot. I fish with shiners and use bait caster reels. The Palomar is quick and easy to tie. I wet the line in my mouth, after looping around the hook I hold the loose knot in my mouth and cinch the line to the hook. Every time I go fishing I retie the knot. Never had a failure. Knot tying should be quick and failsafe. No need to make it complicated.
