Well, the past week has been a good week for bass fishing. The fish are moving during the day chasing shad. The lipless crank bait is a good bait to keep on hand to throw when you see some fish activity. Atop water bait is another good bait to keep rigged when fish come up. Weightless or wacky style Lake Fork Tackle Twitch worms or ZigZags, Zoom Super Flukes, Wave Tiki Sticks, and Zoom trick worms have been good around grass and timber off points. Carolina and Texas rigs have been the deep water best baits along with Storm Swim baits and Lipless crank baits. Watch your electronics and look for the bait and for the fish. Once you have located the fish work the above mentioned baits over the area till you find what they are feeding on or looking for. August can be a great month for fishing even with the heat. The fish will suspend and they can be caught with a little practice with swimming a bait through them. Count down the bait till you feel you are at their depth and slowly move the bait back to the boat. Once you get the speed down you will start catching fish. The drop shot fished over suspended fish can be a good method. Drop the rig over the boat and pull off line till you get to where you think the fish are. Hop or wiggle the bait where it is right in front of them. This should draw a strike. With the water being so warm get the fish back to the water as soon as possible as they will stress out quickly.
The crappie have been small around the bridges and to hot to sit out on brush piles. The bridges hold some welcome shade during the day and keep you getting bit. Look for the crappie in 20 to 25 foot and small jigs and minnows have been the baits of choice. I have August dates open if you would like to book a trip give me a call. Jim Reaneau 1-888-918-5088 |
