Default Weekly Lake Fork Fishing Report From Guide Jim Reaneau

Well, finally we are getting some fall weather. The heat has been here long enough. The water temp will fall some with this front. We need some good old cold weather to get the fish moving. This is for the crappie and bass. Usually by this time we should be spooning the humps and road beds. The fish are schooling some off and on around the lake. Tail spinners, small spinner baits, small crank baits, lipless crank baits, and weightless baits fished wacky or Texas rigged. The list can go on. The fish are scattered from the bank out to 20 foot of water. Main lake points and grass have been good starting areas. The Carolina rig fished in these areas early or all day have been good. The Weightless wacky Lake Fork Tackle Twitch worm fished in the schools of fish has been good. When they get tired of that try a tail spinner and run it through the fish and let it fall and start it back up again. Texas rigs are working around the timber along creeks and fence rows. The lake is getting down and you can see plenty of things you didn’t know was there. Watch for these areas and remember where they are when the lake gets back to full. That is if we ever get any more rain. The grass may get a good start out deep and when the lake gets back up maybe it will grow. Wave Tiki Sticks and the Shadick have been good over the grass and on Carolina rigs out deep.
The crappie are still running small under the bridges but should change when the water temp drops if it will stay cool. The best bite for keepers has be in the timber. Even there they have not gotten stacked up yet.
The Share A Lunker Program started October 1 and should you catch a fish that is over 24 inches and bring it into a marina and get it certified as 13 pounds or bigger and donate it to the program they will give you a cap, jacket, and a free replica. Should the fish be the biggest for the year you will get a life time fishing license. Be sure the fish is over 24 inches.
I have some open days in October and if you would like to book a trip give me a call.
