Favorite Rods ?
My apprentice has kindly offered to buy me a new rod when her taxes come back. Can I get some of your opinions about rods guys? I have a loomis, kistler, st. croix, berkely series one, and yes, I know I'm spoiled, but seriously, what do you guys like? And, does anyone have an Airrus rod, if so, what is your opinion of it. Thank You

St Croix, G Loomis, Rogue are my favorites at this point, but I reserve the right to change my mind as time goes by, and I use more. Kistler won't get any money from me, but if you want a rod that is very comparable, you might try the Rogue rods, very lightweight.

Take a look at the G-Blank line. New semi-custom rod built on Shikari blanks. I use mainly Kistler Heliums and a couple G Loomis rods and recenty purchased a couple of the G-Blank rods. They are a very nice rod for about $125.00. Very light & sensitive, features a split handle and Ti coated guides. My 6'-9" MH worm rod weighs in at a mere 3.55 oz.

I like Esox rods. They are handmade and are compareable to Gloomis. The difference is that esox arent mass produced like the loomis'. They are also a little bit cheaper than the Loomis'. Pm me if you'd like more info

I'm ruling out the GLX line from loomis...too expensive, I'm checking into the AiRRUS Ultra LX, and the Esox, but would really like to actually see it before buying it. I am not a big fan of buy now - see later. I'm also going to look at the others mentioned above. Thanks guys....new readers...I welcome your posts as well.

Betursweetbass, I have Kistler, St. Croix and Arrius. I loved my Kistler till I broke it. I just purchased Airrus recently. I used it once and it is alright but to me it isn't a Kistler. Don't get me wrong i like it also. The Kistler was a use all day long rod. I have 5 St Croixs'. They are a good rod for the money in my opinion. I have bought all my rods at discounted prices. I think I got a very good deal on the Kistler-25% off. I probably won't be buying any more for a while but if I did I would get another Kistler, a heavy weight for flippin.
Lizards, why won't you use Kistler? Bob

I don't really have one brand. If I find a rod with the specs I want for the presentations and baits I'll be using it for I'll get it. I have berkley rods, a bassmaster rod, shimano rod, and am looking at a St. Croix or a loomis. I'm not to picky with rods.

Go with a G.Loomis GL2. They are about $130 and perform just as well as any loomis rod. If you would get one 7' or longer just add an eye to the bottom and you have a rod that is very similar to any other rod that runs over $200. I used a GL2 last season and it led me to 10 wins and was only 18 for half of the season, 17 the other half. If I can catch fish on these rods couldn't all of you guys who have been fishing for as long as I've been alive? Also, I don't have a big pocket book so I save a lot of money. The two bass in the picture were caught on a light action 6'6" GL2

I have a Shimano Scimitar, Lake King, Berkely something made of IM7, a couple Quantums, and my favorite Fenwick HMX. Also my dad has a "Hammer" rod from someplace in Miss. A guy he knows from work knows the guy that makes them and I have only heard great things about them. Anybody know of these rods?

BTW folks, I can assure you a great rod will help with the sensitvity, and lightweightness(is that a word) will help with fishing all day, especially when tourney fishing. Now with that said, a high end rod does not make you a better fisherman or mean you will beat the other guys. The one who knows where the fish are, and how to catch them will always kick your butt, even with your $450 rod.

Basser087...... I've been looking into the GL2 and am really considering getting it. Actually I'm looking at the 6'6" light action rod!! Maybe I'll take a second look at it! Thanks

Well, I broke down and ordered a AiRRUS Ultra LX from the net. I'll let you guys know how I like it after a few outings with it. Thanks again for all your input. On a second note, my fishing buddy is getting a loomis soon, and she just bought herself a nice Shimano Crucial tonight ....that's not a bad stick either. We're both divorced and don't have any one but ourselves to spoil, we don't drink or party, so we gotta put the money back into the economy somewhere....

Hey dodgeguy, I am with you on the BPS rods. I prefer the BPS Extreme Rods, especially because they work with the XPS weight system. I truly believe that if you put the weight in the tail end of the rod, you lighten the tip, which is where the sensitivity is . . .
