Well, the high winds have been unbearable. Just when it slowed it changed to the North and got back up again. The creeks are off color to muddy from the run off. But don’t complain as the lake is slowly coming up. The water temp is any where from low to upper 50’s . I have heard that some people are seeing mid sixties. This can be this time of year, it’s just a matter of where you are. The full moon is on the 14th this should start our first spawn if the water will get up and hold in the low to mid 60’s. The fishing has been up and down for me this week. The jig, spinner bait, wacky worm, and Texas rig worm have been my baits of choice. The Wave Tiki Stick fished weightless wacky or Texas rigged has been good over and around the grass. The Lake Fork Tackle Twitch worm and Zig Zag are good starters fished straight or wacky. The Ring fry is another of my favorites. This bait will not move around as much as other baits when the wind is blowing. This is a good bait to fish timber and grass. Let it sink slowly and don’t move it much. When the fish hit these baits let them have the bait for a while. This time of year the fish tend to hold the bait and not suck it in. They will swim with the bait and move it away from there area. Start your search on secondary points and move back from there till you locate the fish. Remember where you catch fish in the morning as more will move in as the day goes by. Work areas over good when you catch a fish. Don’t get into a hurry to leave and area. Fish it well. I still have some March and April dates open if your planning a trip give me call.
