Default Bass Pro vs Cabelas

I have been to Cabelas but not Bass Pro. The closest BP is about 3 to 4 hours away from where I live. Has anyone been to both and would it be worth it for a trip to BP. I really don't need anything except BP's soft rod case that holds 12 rods. And maybe some baits. And maybe one of those hats that has a neck shade. And some new line. And a new seat for my boat. And a lure retriever. And lol.

Order on line might save you the trip. I would say they are about the same.after you figure out gas they way it is now. save the trip for something special.

I'm with zilla-oftentimes the store won't have what you are looking for-out of stock. With the price of gas it would probably cost you more than the shipping. That said, the feeling of walking into a BPS or Cabelas is hard to describe-think kid in a candy store

That rod holder is nice-great way to transport your rods. I've had one for several years and it can come in real handy.

Been to several BPS's now, and I'm about to order online anymore. It's great to be there, but as already stated, the inventory isn't what I really want, especially the certain products I buy is the important thing to me. And I can always get those on-line, without driving $1,000,000,000.00 worth of gas outa my vehicle to do it. I'm guessing Cabela's isn't any different. I actually like a lot of their items on-line, ask my bank account LOL

While I agree that online ordering is easier, I suggest that if anyone is around Springfield Mo, do stop by BPS. It is absolutly unbelievable. As a matter of fact it is the Bassers Mecca. All bass fisherman should be required to make a pilgrimage there.

I've been to the BPS in Springfield, and the one in Orlando Fl, I was in total awe of them, my take is if you wait long enough they will build one close to you. They are already coming west. One of them in Reno, Las Vegas, and one in Manteca, before I know it there will be one down the street from me.

Now, I've only ever been to the Bass Pro Shop in the Rundel (sic) Mills Mall in Baltimore Marryland, but it's about the same as the Cabela's in West Virginia. While the mall store didn't have the boats that I'm sure the Bass Pro in Harrisburg has, it's lure selection is probably about the same and that's about the same as Cabela's. Personally, between the two, I like Cabela's alittle more because I like the camping section they have upstairs. The only difference I notice was that BPS has less in the way of hunting gear and camo then Cabela's, but they're about the same in lure section. Cabela's probably has more if you count the trout and fly fishing. Then again, like I said, the BPS I was in was inside a mall.

Been to both and they are about the same. I may look around and drool abit but normally look online or local tackle shops to get my bait monkey fix. I always shop around to get the best price. Normally I save myself a few bucks and the plus of finding new things to try.

The bps in cincy is ok, but didn't have the stocked items on the shelves I was hoping to find, plus a tad pricey, but I guess all plastics have gone up.

If you want fishing items, go to BP. Hunting equipment, Cabela's

I have two BPS stores and a Cabela's about a 90 minute drive away. I like both. BPS has a better selection when it comes to fishing tackle, although about 1/3 of it is BPS branded merchandise. Cabela's is better for hunting equiment. Prices are virtually identical. A trip to either is fun but costs me more money than shopping on line - BPS hooks you up with your own, personal tackle monkey upon entering the store. But I have learned that something you see in the catalog or on-line may not be carried in the store. I made a trip to Harrisburg for several items in March, the major item I wanted was not "in store" and was only available on-line or ordered from catalog. That didn't make me overly happy, but I compensated and spent money on other things - so much stuff I never knew I needed so badly.... But I prefer on-line purchases for the majority of my tackle needs. It's just easier, no traffic, parking issues, checkout lines, and it's easier to control the impulse purchase.

One thing I was going to order from BPS was a soft rod case. I stopped by the local Gander Mtn. to check if they got the jointed grappler shads in. They didn't so I asked the clerk if they had any soft rod cases. After he told me where to look I saw single ones and ones that held four rods. I saw one out of the package and thought it was the four holder one. I asked him to check the price and it came up a single for $5.99. I figured what the heck and bought it. When I opened it up it was big enough to hold eight rods with reels. What a bargin. I did ok on that one.

I have been to the home office Cabela's in Nebraska and the Cabela's in Kansas City as well as the BPS in Springfield, mo. I am inclined to agree with HERDBULL that Cabela's is best for hunting items and BPS for fishing items.
I was in Cabela's in KC last Wednesday to get three items I needed. They had one of them, so I am going to have to order the other two.
