You aren't fishing heavy enough cover if you can flip and pitch plastics and have them fall through without getting hung up.If you fish soft plastics , you might better flip or pitch with a spinning rod. It will allow the lighter weight free fall straight down without any problems.

Bassthumb, I did not type the post correctly. I meant it as saying that you would miss alot of reaction bites if you rule out using a jig.To be truthful, price out the tungstun weights, creature baits and hooks that makes up your flipping rig to catch say 100 fish. Then price a jig & pack of trailers that will catch the same amount of fish, which one is cheaper ? When I first started jig fishing, I would buy clearanced soft plastic baits and use them as trailers on a jig.Lizards were my favorite, I'd cut them in half at the mid section and get 2 different looking trailer types. The thing is everything I bought regardless of color, or appendages caught fish when impaled on a jig.

i know i concidered the money part too pnj i dont care about money i care about catching fish when other guys on here complain about soft plastics ripping to easy it made me think. i am willing to spend more money if im going to catch more fish, and i dont haqve lots of money by any means. just got out of college with a kid on the way lol. so money is tight to say the least. ive just found myself using creature baits more and more over a jig. i still use a jig a good bit. like you said in really heavy cover, clear water, and deeper water.

Bassthumb,I was just trying to give you a different view is all. I don't go by the price of the items I buy either, just think sometimes we are our worst enemy when trying to out think a bass. I think some things should be considered when buying a bait that usually aren't. Is everyone using the lure, so the fish are getting conditioned to them, making the lure less effective over a period of time ? Will I know how to figure out a pattern or a set conditions, or purpose to need that lure in my arsenal of fishing tools ? I am guilty of buying the trend baits, or buying out of impulse only to never buy them again, because I didn't need them to catch fish, when another lure I already had fit the task.
