				 | I've seen the promised land!

Took a family vacation last week to the land of Mickey. Took a morning and met Lizards at his hawg grounds. You talk about heaven on earth! Put the boat in around 6:15 with overcast skies and no wind. Tried some topwaters right off with no strikes. I was there to catch some big bass so we went with live shiners. Pulled up to a Lizards hot spot amongst the grass and tree roots. Lizards catches the first fish and I start to get excited because this thing has the rod bent over and he's hanging on for dear life! He says "It's a good one but it's not a big one", he then pulls out the biggest bass I've seen in person and I can't hide my excitement. She measures 22" and 15" girth. WoW! We don't see that in Indiana too often. That was the big fish of the day, I think we both pulled in 3 more each in the 2lb area, and I was lucky enough to catch the first bowfin of my life! Thanks for the trip Lizards! You are an awesome host and I hope to get down there next spring when the bite is really on |

Creek, I didn't reconize you without your old avatar. Good to hear ya get out to fish with Lizards again, even if it meant going to the sandbox state to do it. P N J |

I really wish I would have had the shot to hit the "secret" lake. Maybe this winter if I can work out a trip. I am also trying to go to Florida for the UF game, but will be too far to the northeast (thinking of staying in Cheifland near the Suwanee) to get to lake county.

I had a feeling that after I left I would be getting a phone call from you telling me the bite was on and you had boated a few 10 lbers! Glad to hear you found a few more! Did you ever make your way over to sailor lady and see what she was catching? |

errr scratch that, drove from ocala to chiefland today, took an hour, chiefland to wildcat should take 1.5 hours maybe less depending on traffic.

Yea I thought that seemed a little fast. Maybe I can work it, but it will depend on who goes with me - this is a football trip, not a fishing trip (although I will try and get some in). But that Alt 27 is a great road from Ocala to Cheifland. I can't believe for years I used to bother with I 75.

if you do make the drive, your best bet is to take US 27 South Towards Ocala. Shortly after the Levy/Marion County line, you will come to CR or SR 326, turn left onto 326 and you'll be heading east. Go past the interstate and stay on 326 all the way to SR. 40 and turn left. Head east on 40 till you pass US 19, and less than a mile from US 19 is Wildcat. This route will allow you to bypass ocala saving about 15-30 minutes.
