Lots of variables there, but the obvious thing i see is....
You probably caught all the fish in that area that were susceptible to the worm in the morning. They were throwing a jig and caught fish because the fish in the area had not seen it already that day, and there were fish left that were susceptible to it. Not saying your chances were 0, fish moving in that hadnt seen your worm or something changing their mood could cause fish who ignored it to take it in the evening. Sounds like neither of these things happened so presenting the same bait to the fish so soon in the same place was not the best plan of attack. Something similar but not the same (jig enstead of a worm) would have been my choice and if that didnt work then something totally different (spinnerbait, crankbait, etc.) I fish a small lake often and have to come up with new patterns constantly to keep up with the fish, they are very wary of things after you wear them out on something a few times. Of course there are exceptions that work every time the conditions are right, but not very many and it seems those conditions when the "old standbys" work seem rare when its tourney time and not just a fun day lol. |

As Mike Iaconneli says you have to fish the moment. You can't always fish the way you did the day before or even an hour ago. You have to adjust to changing conditions to be a versatile angler. Maybe thats just what the fish wanted. Listen to the bass. If you can't catch them on what you did before change lures. Let them tell you what they want.

You say the two guys "next to you", but I don't know how close they were or whether you were fishing from boat or shore. But there's always the possibility (one of many) that even though they seemed close, they could have been fishing different cover or structure than you.

I'm not sure I believe that bass will "remember" the worm. They don't exactly have the best long term memories in the animal kingdom that I know of.

If you want to get technical its that they remember bad experiences, not everything in general (as best the research i have read leads me to believe) Like a dog that you scold remembers not to repeat the behavior. A fish caught on a particlular lure can remember not to eat those because of the experience. |

Lone Archer,
Take your favorite lure to a small farm pond and fish it everyday. I am sure you will catch good numbers at the beginning, but your catches will slowly taper off the more oyu fish with it. This is basically what Dwain said, but oh well Catch em up Brian |

I agree, it's amazing that a few feet can make all the difference in the world. Plus what Dwain said along with it. If you aren't fishing where the fish are you'll not catch any ![]() Lizards |

bass have been proven to get conditioned to seeing certain lures and staying away from them.we have all seen the hot lure of the year and then it decreases in effectiveness because everybody fihes the snot otu of it and the bass become conditioned to it.this is currently happening with the senko.it's also possible like marty said that they could have been holding on a piece of structure that wasn't present where you were.
