Default Lost the Fish of a Lifetime!

Well i decided to get up and go fishing (again) this morning and got to a local reservoir, and i am aware that this res. does have some large bass and also some northern pike... so heres the thing i throw out a senko texas rigged with a 1/16 oz. bullet weight let it hit bottom near a large large large cluster of weeds... sits there for bout 10 seconds and the line started to move off so i set the hook and after a 5-6 minute battle which seemed like forever a bass appears on the rocks by some tree roots and this thing was 11+ pounds easily it had a very large stomach and girth... then the damn bass got my line tangled around one of the tree roots and i let some slack out to let it swim away for a second and the hooked popped out of him!!! I was mad!!!! I also caught 9 other bass in that same spot by the weeds... they were anywhere from 12" to 17" and that one huge one but i am going back to the same spot tomorrow morning and trying to get that hog!!! Than You

Ryan

I know how you feel!
You always remember the ones that get away...kinda gnaws at you!
I lost a decent fish earlier this year. (Maybe 4lbs.)
When I was in my barb-less phase..(ended soon after it began)
I did catch a fish about the same size from the same hole
not too long after..so there is hope. ( It was nothing like the one you lost)
Which poses another question do bass stay in the same general area for extended periods

I feel you pain partner. I remember loosing a walley in Minnesota that would have easily gone over 10 pounds after a long battle when as my father prepared to net the fish, he made one last hard dive and the hook came free. Made me sick!!! Good luck tomorrow!!! Hitt'em with a different choice and maybe he'll take it.

I had a state record get away one time, but I had 150 yards of power pro out in about 50 foot of muddy dark water. Only had him hooked up for about 1-1.5 seconds before he wrapped me around a limb on the bottom. He may have been a world record, but I woulda had to of seen him better.

Congrats RRW, and welcome to THE CLUB.

I've already told the story countless times, but for me the one that got away happened in the south port canal below lake Toho, about 5 years ago. I had just happened to pick up a spinning rod with 8 lb Trilene xl with a fluke on it, and I was throwing at hydrilla on the edge of the canal. Well I tell you I fished with that damn spinning rod for 5 minutes and that just happens to have been when the big one hit, and yes, it went right by the boat so I got tell it was a hoss..went right by the boat and kept going until it went into the hydrilla. Of course 8 pound XL was no match.

I had been throwing a fluke all week with 20 pound Big Game on a 5600 Abu, had I had that setup when the fish hit it would have been a battle worthy of pay per view. But thats the luck of the draw when it comes to big fish. Take a drink pal, we've all been there before. . . .

Well yea Ken, but it was a drum...RRW lost a bass.

You should sympathize with his plight as we have all been there, all had state records, 11 pounders on only to break the line or toss the hook in our faces. Its like prison, everybody is innocent, and everybody here has lost a state record.

Remember SHARP hooks and good line will help you get that hawg! Sharpen your hooks up with a sharpening stone. you won't miss many after sharpening your hooks.

Here ya go, I lost an at least 35 pound fluke, a month ago, because we got him to the surface, and had nowhere to land him, and noone had a net big enough, plus we were fishing 3.5 miles out on a pier.
