If I needed a new baitcaster, that would be the one I'd buy! Big Pflueger fan, love their reels, they make decent rods too.

$10 cheaper than the Supreme, not bad for a high-speed reel!

Yeah I think Quantum, Daiwa, and Pfleuger, make the best reels hands down.

Looks like a nice Curado 200D-series copy. I've heard enough sincere praise for the upper end Floogs to believe that this is, indeed, a good reel. Best part? It's not disgustingly overweight and overpriced like the new 'Rados. (Note: The new series 100D is not overweight, just overpriced.) About that "FREE" T-shirt offer...7 bux for shipping a T-shirt that is worth 4 bux at best . Friends, NO T-shirt has EVER been "A 19.95 value!" unless it was made of material woven from the er, um...fuzz...of 13 year old virgins from Arkansas...and we know how rare THEY are! Now, if it had my picture on it?... Start the bidding at Five Thousand! FR |

FLYROD, Your picture is already on the wall of post offices, and it is a lot less than $5,000! If I didn't already have a rod locker full of Curado's, I would look very seriously at the Pfleuger Supreme or President. I gave them a good going over at Cabela's in KC a couple weeks ago. That is one smooth reel. I may try to justify one this winter for my top water rod, but then I would have to buy another rod to put the Curado on. DAMN, I hate it when that happens!!! Maybe some kind soul will offer me $100 apiece for my Curado's! JackL

I think you misspelled your home state...Starts with "Ar..." On a more positive note, perhaps a C#...I had the privilege of serving at Fort Riley, '68-'69, and I loved the area. Some nice folks, good hunting and fishing, and GREAT Tank Country. The KSU babes weren't bad either. FR | |

now fl i use way to many quatums to be turned off..i own three of the four brands mentioned. all have there good points and a couple have there faults. diawa and quatum are almost dead even..quatums are a good deal smoother.where diawa has a better/smoother drag/braking system.. abu's are not very smooth-and never really have been..a shimano i don't/wont own.. jackl i will give you $1.35 each for your shimano reels the going price on 4 oz surf casting weights.. as they might be good at stopping the dredded tride drag.. zooker

In all fairness, I've only used one quantum baitcaster. Didn't like it much. Had two spinners though, and I had major drag problems....

Jeeper Cats Lizards, you typed a WTL type thread. The reason I am considering the Abu is the price. You get a 11 bearing reel for $149.00.I know that some will argue a certain brand will have better bearings than another brand of reel, but for most purposes, there is absolutely no way of knowing unless the company is telling you so. The fact is all bearings except for the very lowest grade bearing all fall in the same RPM range due to the size of reel bearing. The hybrid (Abec)bearing may be more corrosion resistant than the standard stainless steel bearing because of the use of ceramic bearings, the fact remains it still uses the same type of stainless steel cup as the regular bearings do.The hybrid bearing falls in the same maximum RPM range as the standard grade stainless steel bearings do.Some bearings are more expensive to produce such as the ceramic hybrid bearings and claim to last longer than the standard bearings, but if properly lubed and maintained, I have never seen a standard bearing fail from excessive wear. The bearing Hype is just another lab statistic generated promotion to claim superiority amost their products over another manufacturers product. Its not like comparing apples to oranges, its like comparing a different apple to another apple. The results will be the same for most common people. P N J |
