Default Weekly Lake Fork Report From Guide Jim Reaneau

Well, the cool weather continues to be a welcome site. The big problem is the fronts are not bringing rain. The lake is almost 5 feet low. The low water has not hurt the fishing but has made the lake dangerous to run. The boat lanes are the best areas to run your boat. The short cuts can be very dangerous. I have quit running some of my old runs. The bass are making a major move the shallow water. The bait fish are all over the shallow water. Top water has been fair to great. Pop’r, frogs, and buzz baits. The wacky worm has been the best bait. Lake fork Tackle twitch worms, Ring Fries, Wave worm Tike sticks have all been good around the grass. The Texas, Carolina rig, and Drop shot have been very good in the deep water. Your electronics will be your best friend from now on. Look for the bait fish and you should find the fish not for away. The bar fish will be showing up and the sand bass that have started to hit the deep spots will be in the same areas. Jigging spoons will keep the younger fishermen busy this fall. This can be some exciting fishing for the young ones. The spoon can save the day for the bass fisherman. I like the ½ or ¾ bait. Some days the fish want it hopped and some days they want the bait held still. This will be a trial and error.
The rough conditions with the wind and cold fronts slowed the big fish bite for the Mc Donald tournament.
This is short and sweet this week. Now is the time to book your fall trip for October.
