Default Shallow crankbait rod 12-1-10

Well this is one thats hard to let go of.
MHX-CB843,Amtak Micros (6,5,4's out) conventional set up.
The rod is suppose to match up to an SX reel....I used mine for the balance and color match...I used Gudebrod NCP candy apple as the main red ,was the closet I had,not perfect but looks pretty killer with the reel on.
I got this same blank for myself,so Im looking foward to building me one
This was also my first rod to use the D2 finish on..I found it extremely user friendly and the leveling is really nice!..I think its my new favorite.
Thanks for looking,
Walker

Turned out great man! Black and red is my favorite color combo. I really like the guide wrap on the df. The ramp turned out nice too. Great job!

Thanks Bob/Mallen!
I usually don't weigh em...They feel extremely lite in the hand,However,I did handle a Carrot stick with micros and thought mine were lighter..(I forget which model)...If I remember,Ill try and weigh this rod tonight just for grins.

I am envious of you guys building with bling. I guess I am just a middle aged fuddy duddy because I can't bring myself to build one with it.

Be right back, I have to yell at the neighbor kids to stay off my lawn.

Soooo impressed here. Thats a very professional looking rod and just plain beautiful. You could easily sell a bunch of those! How long does it take to make a rod like that?

That baby is clean. Does she squeek when you rub it? I would be more than happy to recieve it, I know MOEN should be. Did you ramp off of thread or just build it up? I have some good mentors working under you and JRob for sure. You might have to send me a sample pack of that D2. I am digging the Threadmaster though right now.

Keith, thanks man....It takes me about three weeks to build them. This one was 4 weeks because the original tiger didnt look so good,so I had to strip it off and start over..

Roughly about 30hrs total labor....Lot of time is wasted on waiting for epoxies and finish to cure before moving on to the next step.
Sometimes they move alot quicker, sometimes you get hung up on figuring things out....Like wrap patterns, haha!

Bubba- I used a rubber windng check and just ran finish over it with the the little spade tool in the spatula set...(my favorite tool!!)..Two coats to encapsulate it.
I used that same tool to get the clean edges on the rubber winding checks at the ends of the tiger...I didnt want to ramp all the way up because it will get sloppy once it hits the EVA (in my experience)....So I grab a small glob of finish, put it on the check, held the tool still and spun the rod slowly..

Oh I weighed the rod last night on my fish scale.....Probably not a very accurate read but it was 3oz

Yea but I really want to weight it on something more accurate next time...For some reason a digital fish scale didnt seem to be the right choice.
But who knows?

Nice job on that rod. I love custom work. Got to ask what it sold for or what you'd charge for one?

That is one nice looking rod, I love the way you do your tiger wraps, I think it adds allot to the overall look of the rod.
