I need to get a few of these little guys so was wondering what kind of finesse jigs y'all like to use. I've got some 1/4 oz Grassmaster jigs that PnJ turned me on to but need some a little smaller.

I don't know anything about that brand, but I've used Bitsy Bugs and Mango jigs.

Here's the link to them, Marty. I'm familiar with the Bitsy Bug-I'll check out the Mango jigs.

Rebbasser, The Mango jig is a Nichols brand mini jig designed to skip docks and fish weedy areas. The head is cone shaped, I used to use them, but found the hook ups weren't weren't very consistant. Some people swear by them, while I swore at them.

How small is small ? and by small, do you mean lighter weight, or smaller profile ?

Rebbasser,If they are anything like the bigger boo bug, they will work well. I use the bigger jigs quite often in lakes where there are alot of toothy critters, because they work well and I can buy them locally.50 lb braid anit nothin to a muskys , or northern pikes teeth. They cut better than my braid scissors do.

so pnj,
being the jig guru that u are, what brand preference do you have to jig hooks? mustad or gammy? both are known for sharp jig hooks, then it just becomes a matter of lead head shape |

1/8 oz Bitsy, perhaps with a replacement skirt, thinned and trimmed, mebbe add a 2.75" Yum Craw Papi as a trailer.
Sounds delicious, does it not? Toss/flip into boat slips, rocky bluffs, etc, or hop across gravelly points. FR |

Would a 1/2 oz or bigger be considered a finesse jig

1/2 oz. is definately finesse, sometimes you got to reel the jig to the end of the rodtip and poke the rod tip and all through the weed mat then let the jig free fall.It ain't pretty , but it works.

Check these out Reb. These are made by a local guy and are pretty darn good jigs. The Pee-wee jigs are my favorite finesse jigs. |
