I know, I know, we all looooooove the mighty BASS but are there any other fish in your life????? I love 'em all. All that will hit an artificial that is. If they'll hit a lure or fly, I love 'em. I fly fish for carp. I fly fish for bluegill. I love bluegill. I fly fish and gear fish for sand bass (aka white bass) and stripers. I fish for walleye. I fish for crappie (I absolutely love to catch crappie on jigs). I fly fish for trout. I'm what Jose Wejebe calls an "opportunity fisherman". I fish for what's biting, so long as it's biting something fake, an artificial. I don't do bait, but maybe you do, and that's OK.
So, "is there another fish in your life"?????????? What is it?? How do you pursue it??? Do you prefer it to the MIGHTY BASS???????? Do you fish artificials only or do you bait fish for these "other fish"???????? |

I am more of a bass guy. I love to bass fish with artificial lures that is my thing, But there is something special about catching big cats. I can deny that one bit. I love driving down to Santee Cooper every year and going out with our guide (who always puts us on fish). So I would second I like to live bait for catfish. I do like going perch jerking every once in a while speciallly if I am taking my little cousins fishing.

As much as I love catching bass, there is a special thrill when you hook into a 20 pound steelhead that leaps 7 foot out of the water, and peels line from your drag like a locamotive. Comes June, you might see me fishing off the pier along southern Lake Michigan.

Bass are great, but last fall I went Steelhead fishing for the first time. We only caught 6, but it was amazing. I can't wait to go back again. Also We've started Musky fishing. They are completely fearless. They'll follow the lure up to your boat, then sit an wait under the boat. I can't wait till we catch one!

Striped Bass and Catfish. Stripers fight like crazy and we catch big ones here. Not uncommon to catch em 50+ lbs. in the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. We have some MONSTER Blue Cats in the James River too. Not uncommon to catch a 70+ lber there either!

I like to crappy fish and think that the more dif species you fish for, it all helps in the landing of bass.......some light line crappy can teach you real quick on how Not to horse them in.

jk aside, I'm with jb here. I like crappy fishin' with ultralight, you do have to be careful settin' the hook their lips are so thin. Some times Polly and I will make a day of crappy fishin' with bettle spins and jigs, lotsa fun.

Mainly bass, but Pike and Musky take my thoughts come September-November. In total, we caught around 40 combined in two months.

I do some carp/catfish/sucker/anything that'll nibble on a nightcrawler fishing with my dear ol' Pop. 'Course, the fun part is just having him around still to fish with. Other than that, white bass are a hoot when they're schoolin' and smackin' the tar out of shad. Red-eye are always fun on ultra-light, wading the creeks feeding into the James during the dog days.

Definitely crappie. But I love all the freshwater sunfish. Rock bass fight hard, bluegill are awesome, pumpkinseed are beautiful. But crappie are my favorite fish to eat followed closely by walleye, so if I'm still fishing while casting for bass I'll have some live bait on a slip bobber for crappie.

I also like to fish for crappie, but I will take anything that hits it!
It seems that when I try for Bass, I get a lot of Crappie, and when I go for Crappie, I get Bass??!!

Striper, Walleye, and Crappie. No "Bait and Wait" here.

Bass and bass fishing are my true passion, but there is something about being on a river chasing big cat fish that gets me going. But really I enjoy catching anything that swims! From bluegills, white bass, to drum, suckers, carp, bowfin and even gar!

Unless they bite my bass offerings I would have to say nope! I like catching fish of all kinds, but I concentrate almost 100% of my efforts to catching bass. Unless I take the grandkids fishing, but that's another story!

Alligator gar. With a spinnerbait. And a recurve bow...
Boat partner burns the spinnerbait to get them to follow, then I do my Robin Hood impression. Great fun... |

Sometimes I like getting into the white bass and crappie when the season is right. My favorite fish to catch (and eat) other than bass is brook trout when I go visit my folks in Colorado.
