It looks like we may be moving south. My wife recently got another degree but this one she is going to use.
![]() McAllen/Edinburg, TX Auburn, AL Terre Haute, IN Louisville, KY York, PA and maybe a couple of others soon. She just got back from Texas on Thursday and really liked it. Assuming she gets offers from some of these places, she asked me where I would like to live. With my current job I can live anywhere in the Eastern or Central timezones. Plus it is going so bad I don't know how much longer I will have it and may need to go back to school or find another job in the spring. If you had your choice, where would it be and why? |

If you are looking at it from the fishing standpoint , Texas . any other input i can't help with I've lived my whole life in Ct and can't seem to make a break from the state .

I need to look at it from all aspects. Fishing wise I'd choose Texas in a second, it's an hour from Falcon Lake! I've traveled about everywhere but never been in Texas other than the airports. Also it's a lot different to live somewhere than just to visit.

I would look at KY. It's close to a lot of fishing and can still not far from MI for a long weekend. But then again, you aren't a country music fan so you might not fit in that well. I guess go to Texas! No state income tax, however property taxes are a little higher as is sales tax.
Can I have your spring fishing spots?? |

Auburn smells like pee and cigarettes.
But beef prices are cheap. Unfortunately I have heard that the beef around there also tastes like pee and cigarettes.

Auburn, AL would be perfect for a fisherman. To the south you have Lake Eufaula to the east, West Point Lake, To the North Weiss and west Lake Martin. Also Northwest, is Guntersville. Auburn is in the middle of all these. And if you like Golf... there are several great courses around he area. The best would be Grand National (A Robert Trent Jones course). Auburn is quite a beautiful town. Hope you get the chance to see it for yourself.

Haha, I was actually gonna say something nice about cow-town till I thought of the phrase pee and cigarettes.
Its a smaller town. Everybody is close, naturally, cause everyone is related. I think the problem down there is that it is a typical college town in that everything revolves around the University, but when you consider the University is pretty backward (ask Charles Barkely) it makes the area pretty backward. Seriously, though I don't think it would be too bad of a place to live.

Well, In Texas you wouldn't be but just a 100 miles or so from Falcon and a little further to Amistad, a couple hundred mile northeast will put you on Choke Canyon. In a few minutes you could be across the border into Mexico. The area is frequently hit by hurricanes and tropical storms, but South Padre Island also has some beautiful beaches. Winters are pretty short, and summers are very long. I would have mixed emotions about living there. I would suggest a trip down there to check it out for yourself.
Auburn, Al. is definitely better from a "cost of living" standpoint, great lakes nearby in the form of West Point, Eufaula, Lake Martin just to name a few. Lots of Bass Fishing history in that area from Ray Scott's Pintlala, AL home, and Tom Mann's Eufala home to Mann's Tackle Co. Montgomery, does have a Bass Pro Shop and Auburn has a brand new Academy Sporting Goods store. The area is humid river bottoms for the most part. Mossy Oaks and dark water (good combo for big bass). ![]()

I attended at UA.I lived in Phenix city for a while, then I moved back home. I'm sure it has changed. Most people were nice, most food was good, except grits. There were alot of the word peachtree mentioned and it was the only time I have ever been to an opera house (Columbus, Ga).

Amen to that. I just wish I could find a decent place to fish around there. My father in law works at the prison. I'll be home from the 26th till the 2nd. Hope to do some fishing while I'm there if the weather is nice.

I have always thought that the Nashville Tennessee area would have alot to offer, fishing, industry, culture, music, and climate, just to name a few likable reasons.
