I caught this one with my new 7'2" Shimano Crucial ML Fast, Drop Shot Rod. It's matched with a new Plueger Supreme 9235XT Spinning Reel, spooled with 8lb Seaguar Invizx. I caught it with wacky rigged senko.

Nice haul Woody. She looks a little thin from the bedding.

It's a nice fish and it could weigh 2lbs, I caught one in a tourny on Truman lake in Missouri that was 18" and only weight 2 1/2lbs. Fish had a big head but was paper thin. Can't tell how thick side to side that fish is but it does have the shrunk in belly of a spawned out fish. Give her a month and she'll be back where she should be!

Thanks guys!
You are probably right. I need to upgrade from my spring scales to digital. The following day I landed an 18" largemouth, and my spring scales only showed 2 -1/2 pounds. I'll post pics of the 18"er later when I get the time. I landed that 18 inch'er with my ML Crucial and I was impressed at how well it kept that fish "in check" so to speak. At no time at all, did I feel that this rod was under powered. The Crucial's Fast Tip had plenty of strength to keep the fish from getting away. I really like this rod and would highly recommend it. -Mark |

Here's a few pics of the 18"er I was telling you about. My Rapala spring scale showed its weight at 2.5lbs.
![]() Here's a pic of the same bass. ![]() Crucial rod and Pflueger Supreme XT 9235 and same 18" fish. ![]() -Mark Last edited by woody; 06-07-11 at 08:06 PM. |

Nice pics, Woody! The bass tend to be pretty chunky on the lake I fish, but I have found this as a general rule of thumb here: 14" = 2lbs, 17" = 3 to 3.5 lbs, 20" = 5lbs. I use a Berkley lip grip scale and have found it to be quite accurate, although I must admit this one from Rapala has caught my eye recently.
