Shelf Life
Do plastics have a shelf life? Will they sour and do you keep them after they have been in the water for a while meaning would you take them home to use the next time out or trash them?
I have a lot of creature baits, lizards, worms, frogs etc some have been in the box for a long time some have been in the water and some never? Will they "spoil"? |

Certain plastics like the Berkley Gulp series will dry out. Older plastics in old plastic boxes have a tendency to melt together, as do plastics like Strike King's Elaz-tech. Other than that, they should be fine. If they are noticeably hard or melted, pitch them. Otherwise, you can use them. I've got a couple of the original Mann's Jelly Worms that were my grandpa's and they are still soft and would probably catch fish.

Thats what I sort of been leaning towards. When they get damaged its a no brainer. Never really noticed any foul smell. even with the old stuff. thanks for your thoughts. Ive noticed on occasion with some the oil seems to seep out pr the surface seems a little more moist after time. Never have seen any dry out but have seen the melted skirts to often like on my hula poppers

seal them with a vacum sealer.....in the bags or plastic container

They can last years and years. I've used old ones and have read about guys catching fish on lures 15+ years old. Don't trash them.

Ive discovered bags that have fallen in creases or random hidden spots in the boat and used them and they seem to perform and catch just fine, I wouldnt worry about it.
