Starting real luremaking!

um well on the site i found it didnt hard to match them at all. take two peices of wood. when lying on top of each othe, they should be a little bigger than the finished lures width. glue them together temporarily. then, trace a template around. cut thru both peices at once, and you have two flat identical shapes. sand the edges and carve some out, bang its all good

already saw those. my mom gives me 70 dolalrs on my birthday, tops. ill have to stick to x-acto knives. any cheaper version of dremels?

I got one for my dad on father's day last year at Lowes. It was a knock off brand (don't remember which one) but it was only about $20.

well i only got 150 bucks left in my budget. and im saving 50 or 60 for a new rod. btw, just carved out another popper while the paint layers are being added to the first. the one i started today just got epoxied together. im painting tomorrow

um what did the abu garcia have to do with this? but anyways, sanding is a huge pain, i cant temporarily glue it, cuz it slips. so i put needles in the four corners of both halves. but when i sand it, i cant put a hole in the lure. i need a new method

try a clothspin to hold the to pieces together instead of the pins

If I were you, stay low tech. You can still have good results. However, if you decide to get a dremel or other rotary tool, please make sure you use the appropriate eye protection.

If you have some screw eyes, you can use them to hold the lure without actually touching the bait.



This bait you see above was hand-shaped with a $5.00 3M sanding block, hand-painted with a standard brush and water based acrylic paint.

I admire your passion and persistence. If only I started fishing at your age.

island bass- yeah i plan on staying low tech. the X-actos work like a charm, and i cant afford a dremel right now. i use a 3m sanding sponge. sorta hard to sand the two peices equally though. sanding block? ive never seen one of those before... and nope i dont have screw eyes because i wouldnt be able to drill them in. if i ever go to home depot, illl buy a few andhand turn them in, but until then i use wire running thru the bait. and what did you use to coat that lure?

and another thing is this- now i have to wait before second layers for the lure to dry. i do it in my garage, since it says it needs adequate ventillation. would a bathroom with a sort of nice ventillation system do? because then, i canuse the hair dryer to spped up the drying. anyways im about to see how the bait i epoxied last night is doing. thanks islandbass

ok, finished most of my first popper. i know epoxy would drip, and i dont have anythig else to use. so im going to have to use epoxy, in really small ammounts, and wait for each section to dry. i have the first side drying righ now. ni 8 hours i turn it an do the top

damn... the epozy dripped on my lure and made it bumpy. im going to have to add another coat or something...

almost any bran of rotary tool will work for this light duty stuff, in fact there is a $20 one all over eBay that I've used for cutting holes in stucco. Start with a cheap one if you like it move up.
