Default Tips for Lake Barkley in early May

Hey all,

A family friend has given my wife and I use of their timeshare for a week, since they aren't able to use it this year. So, we looked at the timeshare company's website and decided on a condo located on Lake Barkley. We're going to be there from 4/30 - 5/6, so I should get plenty of opportunities to wet a line.

I can tell you that the condo itself is in Cadiz, KY. The website describes the property as:

Quote:
The resort encompasses three acres of shoreline along 62,000-acre Lake Barkley. Here, you can enjoy waterskiing, sailing, swimming, and fishing. Marinas are close by for equipment rental.
Here's a Google map of the place: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...65295&t=h&om=1

Anyway, so knowing absolutely nothing about the area, I thought I'd turn to the wisdom/experience of the folks here on these boards. My questions are:
  • Do any Lake Barkley experts here think I'll have a chance at some good bank fishing right there on the grounds of the resort? (map link above provides perspective)
  • Or should I just plan to try and rent a boat?
  • Any special tactics I should be trying at that time?

I admit, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the sheer size of the water...so any tips, suggestions, words of advice, etc., would be greatly appreciated and taken very kindly.

Thanks!
-Rich

Go look at K-Driz's fishing report on the "fishing report" section "Kentucky Lake" is attached to Barkley so same water issues, sounds like he has a handle on the fish. I believe he fishes that a lot in tournies for his school, and even outside tournies.

Keep in mind that barkley heats up quicker than ky lake, sometimes its a few degree's warmer than the huge kentucky lake.
I would think its post spawn time and about any lure will work, key in on gravel banks, and also on both lakes huge brush pile/fish attractants are usually mapped out on local marina maps... also find gravel points sometimes located near ramps , they always hold fish on both lakes.

Great, thanks for the info JB, I appreciate it. I'm thinking I'm gonna try throwing a C-rig, and look for those gravel banks/points that you mentioned. I'm hoping there will be some of that right there at the "resort" area.

I've stayed at many dif areas on both lakes and you'll find fish no problem.
I think they passed a law this year about no fishing off the docks, but almost all of the areas near marinas have public fishing , make sure you have a ky license
