Welcome to my neck of the woods Cranky. If I owned my own boat I would pick you up in a second. If you can wrangle a boat somehow,"Iknow thats probably impossible" the Potomac river offers excellent bass fishing. I think there's a couple of guys on this board who own bass boats in the D.C. area. As far as shore fishing goes, everything I fish is in upper montgomery county Maryland. If you drive into northern va or md there are lots of regional park lake systems in the immediate area.

Two things- 1. Don't rent. For forty-five dollars you can have a cheap fly fishing rig up that will last forever (there's nothing to the reel, the rods are tough and the line rarely needs changing).
2. Wasn't there some guy on here that was gonna take you fishing in maryland? Captain mike or something?

Yeah, thats him. Captain Mike. He runs a guide service on the Potomac. I'll try to find the link to his site for you.

cranky...if you have never fly-fished before, dont rent it to do it just for a day. If you're going to be fishing from shore, i'd use flukes or 3.5" tubes for smallmouth and My dad always used a kalin's or mister twister grub in chatreuse on a leadhead for smallies and walleye so you could try those out.

just because you can't catch a largemouth doesnt mean you can't catch a smallie! I'd go on that charter though and pick up a few tricks if i were you
