Hooks, you want either a mustad or an eagle claw. As for reels and mono, I definitely suggest Penn reels and ANDE mono. For the knot, tie a 8-twist clinch. Make sure to check it, cuz with the big stuff, it's easy to tie a slipper.

For knots I would go with a uni knot. I can tie up to about 100lb. mono after that it is all crimping. We use 150# for our dolphin/king rigs. What kind of fishing do you plan on doing and I can help you with some more rigs.

Both. We usually cruise weedlines with hoo's out, and then if we find a spot that looks promising, we'll toss out a pilchard on a balloon.

Let's say 1 combo for pier/inlet fishing, and one for offshore. Also bare with me here. Are the reels you guys mentioned Baitcaster types or Spinning types? I noticed on the Baitcasting types the guy had, it was very difficult to get a good cast in with them. I'm guessing you need to let it out as you troll or flip it out a little and pull line out. Now we were using 3-4oz weights. But I didn't have any problems with the spinning outfits. Just got no clue on this stuff at all. I thought I already used "HEAVY EQUIPMENT" LOL. My Bass rig 7' Heavy St Croix with 20lb Fireline did pretty well though. Just worried one of those fish will spool out my reel, it's a 4000 series, but still not big enough. Lizards

You want one 20-40 pound spinning, and one 20-40 pound baitcasting. You can throw with the spinner, and drop and troll with the baitcaster.

Yeah what Fl said. But I would also recommend you keep that baitcaster or go with a spinner for the lagoon down here but with 10lb. fire line.
I would recommend the Penn 113h for bottom dropping offshore (and also can be used for trolling) they are fairly cheap at bass pro (reg. $120 down to 99.99 when on sail) As for a larger spinning I don't have any recommendation other than I have heard the Penn 7500 is good if you get the American made ones, NOT the chinese ones. I use a berkeley big game pole, with a quantum optix reel, and 20lb big game line, for surf casting, and hasd sworked well, but it's a different application. The one mentioned ran me about 70$.
