Yes the boat that you bought will be tippy with you and youre wife but as long as you stay seated and get used to what you can and cant do you should be fine as for the motor I would use nothing less than an 9.9

Are you sure that thing is only 3 feet wide? If it is, then you won't be able to move much at all. A buddy and I went out in a v-hull one time that was only about 3 feet wide and we could barely cast without it rocking like crazy. All it takes is being careful though and you should be fine with it. As far as motor size goes, a 5 HP should move you along pretty good, unless you want to try and blow other boats out of the water and you aren't going to do that in a small Jon Boat like that one. Good luck with it and just remember to have fun.

Yeah, you might want to get a bigger motor if you are wanting to cruise.

Welcome to the forum!

Only 3 feet wide? That sounds more like a canoe. A 5 hp would work, but like garry said, a 9.9 would probably be better.

I think I may know what this guy is talking about. It looks like a canoe with a flat transom on it. That is what my buddy and i took out that one time that rocked like crazy.

It will hold them superfluke. My buddy and I both were in that one. I am 6'4" and weighed right at 290 at the time and my buddy is 6' 6" and weighs right at 320 and it held both of us without any problems. maybe that is why it was rocking so bad.
