Well, I am officially "Going Green", and I bought some Power Pro. Moss Green; two spools of 20 lb. and one spool of 40 lb. I consulted the Power Pro Knot Guide and decide on the Uni-to-Uni Splice since it is strong, yet easy to tie.
I follow the rules.... 1) Make the loop.... 2) Wrap the line 5-6 times around the loop... 3) Cinch it up tight, repeat on the other side with monofilament.... 4) Cinch it tight and pull the two Uni Knots together.... But here's my problem... When I go to cinch the monofilament down tight, it won't give me the "spiral" finish the PP does. Rather than making "spirals" and forming a "noose" look, and stacking up like normal, the "spirals" overlap eachother and cinch-up wrong. Whay is this? Does this make any sense whatsoever? -Lunk- ![]() ![]()

Lunk, are you wetting the mono before cinching it?

Yes, although it still will not cinch.
Am I missing something? -Lunk- ![]()

Lunk, sometimes that uni knot can be a bear. It seems pretty simple, but it might get a mind of its own. Two things come to mind (although, I'm sure someone else might see what's up right away...), 1. make sure the mono/braid diameters are "similar". They can be off some but not a whole lot, and 2. try to make only three or four turns and see what the mono does then. It just might be the practise you need. Think about an improved clinch and that's the same concept, in a sense.

That's what I always tell myself... It's the exact same thing as an Improved Clinch, except for a line running through the center, yet I still can't get it. I'm using 12 lb. mono and 40 lb. braid. They are rougly the same diameter, yet it doesn't want to tie!

Lunk - Tie and cinch the braid first on the mono. Then hold the mono straight and tie and cinch the Power Pro.
Might want to practice the uni on a lure to get the hang of it. Braid is so limp, you can easily get loops out of place. Try to keep some tensionon the line while tying it. Practice, practice, practice....

Wait...
Links, you said to tie the braid to the mono, then tie the PP to the mono- same thing. Do you mean tie the PP to the mono, then tie the mono to the PP, or vice-versa? -Lunk- ![]()

Hey, Lunk- I just visited the PP website. If the brochure you got is the same, then they missed telling folks to pull on the line to cinch the knot and not the tag end. Man, I hope it helps. It's a lot easier to use the uni2uni than a blood knot!

Haha... Thanks, PNJ, but I already knew to pull on the standing lines to pull them together. I think I'm getting a better hang of it, it just takes a lot of line and time.
Should I apply my backing and braid to my rods right now? Will it curl, frey, wear, etc. before fishing season which is in about four-five weeks? -Lunk- ![]()

I am worried about one thing though. When I go to cinch the two Uni's together, you can feel friction on the line the knots are sliding on. Although they are sliding on the braid, will this friction, and in turn heat, weaken the braid? Will saliva or water help repel this?
Thanks, -Lunk- ![]()

That is a good knot, A-Rock, but it is used for lines with a large diameter difference. 40 lb. braid and 12 lb. mono are the same, therefor I use the U2U.

I have never had friction affect braid like it does fluoro or mono. But, why chance it. A little spit never hurt nothin'. As far as the backing, again, many opinions out there, but you don't need a lot to secure the braid to the reel. Some guys spool on maybe 1/3 or more of mono to help conserve the braid. I just slap some tape on the spool and fill it up with braid. The PP has lasted for years. It'll lighten up on you some but it stays strong. Good luck with the knots, Lunk!

Mean to tie the knot with the Power Pro first, cinch it down snug but not tight, then tie the knot with the mono. That seems to work best for me.

Bob---Do you mean lakes really freeze? I thought ice was only in the fridge. So those pictures of people fishing through holes in the ice is real!
Well time to go hook up the boat and off to the lake.

Lunk, rocket science it ain't:
![]() Never have had a problem cinching it down. Don't pull it real tight until after you cinch it.

Lunk-sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Here is the link:

Sorry to bring this back up, but what about tying a 17 lb monofilament leader to the 40 lb braid? Since the diameters are far apart, will this still work, or will the thick mono override the thinner braid?
