Baitcasting problems. This is pissing me off

i recently bought a "shimano cruxis" baitcasting reel, and have been using it fine for about a month. whell i left it outside for a night, and when i went to reel it in the next day, it sounded and felt as if it had sand in the reel. It IS very clean, but it feelt as if it seized up.

I got some berkly oil and grease. i only greased the bearings and what not, but i went to cast it later and it only went like 10 feet. ( i can normally cast very far with this reel) so it feels like there is a magnetic brake on really bad. but i know there isnt. also when i have a weighted lure on and i click the thumb release button, my lure decsends slowly rather than dropping fast like it used to. so obviously it has something to do with the spool.

Does it need oil? grease? i hope somebody can help... thanks

check the sides of the spool and see if a section of line is stuck in the crack

Looking at your location and the fact that you left it outside, I would suspect that the factory oil/greese was not rated for such a low temp.
While I can not be certain on reel oils, most lubricants will turn almost glue like in temperatures below their normal threshholds. I would consider a full disassembly and cleaning off any location that was previously greased or oiled. Once it dries I would then reapply.

bearings get a drop of oil not grease.

youve got to cast it out.

i used to clean my reels and then oil them with Kroil.. well i bought some Abu Reel oil/grease..its really thick so i put a drop on the bearings and took it to the pond with a spinnerbait and it went 10 feet.. i got mad and turned the brakes all the way off and the brakes back and it went 15 feet with a little backlash.. so i kept casting it and it worked its way out.

the reel has to work the excess grease/oil out so it can function properly. i can now chunk the spinner pretty far on it..

You might of over greese or oiled it. To much will cause the problems your having.

I was looking at the Berkley oil and grease today. On the back lower left hand corner of the package, if you bought the como pack. It tells what to grease and what to oil. You probably can go to the Berkley site and get it also... tightlines

First off, welcome to the forum!

The bearings need a drop of oil, the gears need just a little grease. Some say the worm gear and line pawl-the thing that moves the line guide back and forth and winds the line on evenly-needs grease, but I oil it instead. The reason? The worm gear is not enclosed inside the reel case and that sticky grease will pick up all kinds of dirt and grime.
