Shaft Length...
Hey guys,
I am looking at a decent deal on an Opti 175 to replace my Opti 115. My question is, my transom is 22" high. Opti's come in 20" or 25" shaft length. The motor I'm looking at is a 25" model. If I buy it, I will certainly put it on a jackplate. I know there would be more drag with a longer shaft and no jack plate. Would it be better to jack "up" a 25" shaft motor or jack "down" a 20" motor? Or no real difference other than the extra weight of a 25" motor (slight). If it makes any difference whatsoever, remember my hull is a modified V with no real "pad".

I understand that, Zook...but I'm thinking if I can get a steal on a 25" motor, it should still work for me with a jackplate on a 22" transom, right? Any problems I'm not seeing?

the shaft measure from the power head to the lower unit..if ya went with a 25" you would have to get a 12" jack plate...

My 115 is a 20" motor, with no jack plate. Are you saying I need 7" of jack plate with what I've got now? I'm confuzzled.
I always thought you were supposed to get the shaft that was closest to the height of your transom, and adjust it up or down with a jack plate.

The 25" will work but you will have to have a plate.....depends on what plate will sevre ya best depending on your rig......by the way what boat do you have.....I can give ya a good recommend on which plate if I knew exactly what boat we are referring to.
