Default Jika rig

Been thinking about it for a while, and when I seen they wanted almost 10 dollars for 2 rigs, I decided I would make some of my own.

I used Gammi 3/0 and 4/0 EWG's with #2 snaprings, and a 3/8th oz. bell sinker.

Snaprings were 1.25 for 25
Sinkers were 2.50 for 10
Hooks I already had, but I imagine a 5 pack is around 5 dollars.

I decided to go ahead and powder coat them, just because I liked the way it looked.

I think these will do the trick, for allot less.

Tie on to the split ring that is connected to the hook.

Anyone have any idea on what weight seems about middle of the road for these, I went with 3/8 oz and think it may be on the heavy side.

I haven't fished this rig yet, but I always assumed that the weight you use on the jika rig would be the same weight that you would use in the same situation on a Texas rig.

Those hooks look like 5/0 if so then thats prob a good weight.
2/0=3/16th 3/0=1/4th etc I think alot depends on depth and bait size as well... Good looking paint job I specially like the flakes in the dark one.

I had to actually type jika rig in a search engine to figure out what you are making, look good ,from what I saw most are like 1/4 im sure deeper situation heavier will come into play but also figure its like the stand up head approach. With a bait that tends to float up being of importance.

I also plan to make a bunch of these. I was going to use the cylinder shaped drop shot weights and just flare the line clip out a bit to put a ring on it. I have a mold for those sinkers so i made a bunch up. I'm going to make them in 1/8, 3/16, 1/4 and 3/8 oz. I plan to use the small ones in place of shakey head jigs and the large ones with bigger biats anytime i would have tossed a t rig.

If there was a drop shot weight with a crane swivel it would be about perfect.

They look nice. Maybe that was my problem last season, I only used one split ring, and they were a pain to rig. You use super-line hooks too?

I did use superline hooks, I made a small change to the ones I showed yesterday, I removed the #2 splitring that I had the weight attached to and replaced it with a #1. It gives the rig a little cleaner look in my opinion.

I made a few more in different weights, top is a 3/8, middle tree are 1/4 and the last is 1/8.

Dog, I am not sure that the other splitring is even needed, I plan on trying both ways.

Thanks Tav, What plastics are you going to use? Also, do you fish these rigs like a T-rig, or like a Pivot football jig?

I think the second split ring is to give the weight more freedom of movement and make it harder to a fish to throw.

Either way, they look good Tav.

I am going to throw a bunch of different plastics on them, craws, creatures and beavers.

Gonna try the Bifflebug, Hoo Daddy, RI sweet beavers, KVD perfect plastic beavers, chigger craw crazy, several of the berkley baits, and some pours a local guy done for me. I even think I may try a lizard or two on this rig.

The videos I have seen make a craw type bait look darn good.

I think that if you use the Owner hooks with the welded ring, then you need the split ring on it or you would not be able to put the sinker on it or change sinkers. the more I look at these the more i think that to build them with a regular hook, and swivle sinker with a ring on it, then you only need one split ring. I just can't see how 2 rings could make it any more free swinging than one ring as long as the sinker has a large loop on a swivel

Man those look really nice. I'm going to have to make some of those myself. Did you make your own sinkers or are those store bought?

The weights are just a bell sinker that a local guy poured, I powder coated them myself. They are as cheap as it gets.

After I make some up, I'm going to try gulp eels, see if the stripers like em.

The first bait that i thought of when i saw these rigs last fall was the paca craw and baby paca craw. The pacas are hollow like a tube and you can plug the hole with a foam ear plug to make them float. They would float straight up on a jika rig and would move so free they would look so real, just like a live craw in defence position.

And all this time I thought the ear protection at work was useless!
Great tip pro!
