New to Lake Norman
I'm new to the Lake Norman area and new to this site. I am lucky enough to live on the water but its a small finger cut off by I77.
According to a couple of different maps, the portion I live on is known as Gambles Creek. It is located on the East side of 77 between exits 28 and 30. There are lots of tree stumps just below the surface near the banks and further out the depth seems to go past 25-30 feet. I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about this area of the lake. I arrived late last season and pulled in several 12-18 inch large mouth but haven't had anything in quite some time. It looks like the stumps will be prime spawning ground but this is just a guess. Wondering if anyone has any advice for the upcoming season. |

lmao thanks laser i think..
it is gambler creek i belive there is either big culverts or siloose pipes that let the water flow out from gambler creek to lake norman proper. this currant flow would be kickin on both sides of I-77 as the banks are heavly laiden with rip rap on both sides.according to my gps topo map gambler is 30+ feet deep. during the winter months either duke power hot hole or the marshell steam plant areas are at there best. pay attention to the fish you catch on norman large mouth are there but norman has a huge influx of spotted bass. look close to a large mouth only have the mouth of a smallie.. gambler creek zooker

#1 he asked about gambler creek. #2 a-d are fish attracters mostly in 10-15 feet of water.#1,2 are boat launch info. how old is your map?? the road numbers are all wrong?? 1151 is now 1458 1934 is now 1922. also your map dose not show the 2 small islands one near the bottom of the letter k -in little creek. and off the big point in hagers creek. i have never seen norman down more than 5 feet ever..
i would rather fish 5.8 miles to the north at the marshell steam plant/150 bridge.. now pnj go ahead and call your congressman to complain.. zooker

Rebbasser, He knows of the little island there. Zooker, My freind , have you ever cranked through the narrow passages by the island before ? I have got to believe a 18 " spot would be huge on Norman wouldn't it Zooker ?I keep saying I am going to get back there to fish again before I die.I hope for something other than chocolate brown water to fish, but when I fished the clearer watered branches , I didn't catch chit. Aww thanks guys, I feel like one of the gang already. I caught a 14'1/2 large mouth in gambler creek a couple days ago. 4 inch watermelon senko, carolina rigged. Caught in a lay down on the East wall of I77. I hate fishing that wall with all the damn traffic but the stumps around the quieter banks haven't had anything since october. I hope spawning season brings em back.
Thanks again. Zooker, glad to meet ya. |

Lake Norman is the home of Hank Parker.
