Default fishing license

I just got a new one for this season yesterday, and im wondering... what exactly is the purpose? Does the state want to know how many people are fishing or just make some extra money?

Actually, the Money goes towards making the fisheries better. All the money you put into the license goes directly for this. Same with hunting. And if you are required to buy a trout stamp, to trout fish, do so please. The extra money goes towards stocking more trout for next year, and in some lakes trout make bass bigger!

strike add your location to your profile..

every state has differant laws regaurding lisence. power is right the money you pay out yearly helps the state manage the states fisherie programs. shuch as stock fish -not only trout but crappie, bass, striper, cat fish.. a deverse assortment of differant types of fish keep water ways healthy.

think of it like this if there is water there is bait fish and over population of bait fish spoils the water way. add in predatory fish -crappie, bass, striper- one for each size class of bait.. add cat fish they clean bottoms of lakes certain cat fish are alge eaters -channels- they eat the alge before it blooms and turns the lake into a sluge pond... the cleaner the lake bottoms the more small fresh water mussles are found the more mussels there is in a givin lake the clearer the water is..

now do you understand ...

The tax money collect on fishing licensing is generally misused like all taxes in ohio are, thanks to our dipsh*t gov taft..he has taken the previously least expensive state to live in, and turned it in to one of the worst places to live, loosing jobs etc...
I don't mind paying for license tho, we pay 24 bucks for annual ohio, then the indiana is about the same, ky for out of staters is like 30 ..but well worth it..fishing is way better in ind and ky than around here, even tho the state if full of big lakes...

JB, Taft is doing a terrible job. I am from Coshocton, OH and still have a lot of family there so I get the scoop on all of his problems.
Now I really feel like an idiot. I just got back from the store where I went and bought a new liscense since I have not fished yet this year and plan to today. I had to wait 25 minutes for the guy to come and get it for me so I was angry. I looked at it when I got home and it says 2005! They expire at the end of March up here. Oh well now I have 2 which is better than none I guess.

It is simply a tax - the state wants money as Cranky said. Sometimes taxes go to the intended purposes, in this case fisheries management, and as JB pointed out sometimes they are misused. I personally would trust a 5 year old with money before I'd trust a state official. Still if we want to have wardens, which we actually need more of, then we gotta have the permits.

Powerbass, I agree you, in part. That is, I don't mind spending the money for a fishing license but I have a problem with the excessive Non-Resident fees. Yesterday, I purchased my NJ license (I live in Pennsylania). With a trout stamp, it costs $54.00. It isn't fair that NJ charges more to the out-of-staters.

I still have to get my license. Open water season doesn't start until April 1st, so I'm alright for the time being.

I think it's still $24 up here.

WISHING,
$54.00 does not seem too bad to me for an out of state fishing license. Since I am over 65, I do not have to buy a hunting or fishing license in Kansas where I live. But I have to buy an out of state license in Texas ($50) Oklahoma ($42) and Missouri ($35) where I fish. I think that all states should make the "No License Requirement" reciprical between states, so that seniors could fish and hunt in any of the 50 states without a license. All I am required to buy is a Federal Migratory Bird Stamp to hunt.

In Tennessee the TWRA recieves 0 dollars from the state operating budget. All funds used to pay personel, for stocking and for reserach come from either federal funds or license sales.Fish2win

Hey JB, you'll never beat old PA. The original land of taxes. I heard they even want to make kids 12 years old buy licenses here. The only good thing is the Water Cops (my saying) They always bust a lot of guys keeping illegal bass through the ice. Ruins a lot of good fishing here.

Texas does one thing that I have never figured out: Our annual licenses run fron Aug 31 to Aug 31, not on the usual Jan 1-Jan1 basis.

We pay 26.50 for salt and freshwater and then 2.00 for a snook stamp!

I belive its only like 3 something here in Florida for non-resident! And I like it to be higher since most of the tourist come fish and don't care about our place since they don't live here!

Also I believe some of this money goes to buying boats for officers. You see lots of those here in Florida especially in the port on a busy offshore day. Florida's got a lot of water to cover. While our licenses are still low. Oh wait that's why we have the tourist paying for that!

No a annual Non-Resident license is closer to $30 for the year. Also why would you complain about the tourists, they pay a awful lot of money to the State. Why do you think the License plates, and State witholding taxes are about nothing. Because they are taxing the tourists LOL

Lizards sorry I didn't make it come out right but that's what I was saying that I was glad it was higher for tourist since its what makes us (residents) prices go down!!

And I meant 30 not 3!!
