Well, the cool air was nice while it was around. This year has been a crazy weather year so for. We need rain and over on the east coast they have more than they need. Go figure. Here on Lake Fork the lake is slowly falling. I see more and more little and big stumps showing up in the areas I have been fishing. The lake is about 3 feet low. The fishing has been good to great on most days. Some mornings are better than the afternoon and on others the afternoons have been better. There has been some schooling during the mornings and afternoons. Keep a lipless crank bait or a tail spinner handy as they can be cast long distances. The mornings have been started with Texas and Carolina rigs with Lake Fork Tackle Baby Creature and baby ring fries on the end. Points and grass have been the best areas to start your search. I am working water 5 to 25 feet deep. The best key is work the baits very slowly. I have seen where working the bait to fast resulted in no fish or bites. The spoon and swim baits are working on the suspended fish. There are plenty of suspended fish over humps and old bridges. You will have to count down the baits and work the count out till you get the depth down. These fish can be caught with some trial and error.
With the holiday weekend coming please be careful as there will be plenty of people on the lakes. Boats will be pulling skiers and tubes and not be watching as closely as they should.
The crappie are still running small under the bridges but it is cool and a great place for the small fisherman. Get them some minnows and 12 to 18 foot has been a good depth. The timber out in 20 to25 foot of water 12 foot down is has been good for better size fish. Minnows dropped straight down has been the best approach on these fish.
I hear the night fishing has been up and down but has been cooler. Night fishing is not my thing but I hear some good fish have been caught. Just remember to get your lights working before you get out at night, have plenty of insect repellant and keep your life jacket on. Dark colors on spinner baits, buzz baits, jigs, and big worms are your best baits.
