2 weeks to fish. The hottest part of summer. Average highs near 95. Drought. Tough fishing. An enigma.
Thats about the best way to explain my trip to florida. Because while the bites were hard to come by, the average fish was very nice. I had several fish that by previous florida trip standards would have been the largest of the trip. And the patterns did not make sense. I've already said that spinnerbaits were the big producer. I could not buy bites on worms, other than of the tricky variety. Bass seemed to be unconcerned about water depth, or even uninterested in occupying such textbook spots as hurricane blown trees sitting in 6-9 ft of water. When I got there I was told to fish Kissimmee. Hatchineha was too shallow. Well, most of my good fish came from hatch. I was told mornings should be the key. I did better in the afternoons. What this trip illuminates for me, and what I hope yall take away from my meagre reflection on this trip is the old socratic ideal. Socrates was told by the oracle at Delphi that he was the wisest of all men. He reflected on this revelation a bit, and eventually realized that this was true, only because he realized how little he knew. Gentlemen we are not bass. When we fish for bass they are the boss. They know what they are doing. If they flock to foot and a half water in the middle of the drought, decide to only hit fast moving baits and flaunt every bit of information ever written about the bass then that is their right. We have no right to question what they are doing, because our logic and their logic are not the same. Its for this reason that the sport of bassfishing remains interesting no matter how many days are spent on the water. It is impossible, no matter how hard one tries, to truly think like a fish.
