rod building help...

rod building isn't something i have ever really thought about but for whatever reason (maybe the winter months ) i have kinda given some thought to doing it a little in my spare time (mainly when the snow is too deep to launch my boat ). i have been looking around on the internet and now i am overwhelmed with all the stuff available. i was hoping someone on here could clue me in on what a newbie would need to build a descent and reasonably priced rod. i would like for it to look nice but it doesn't have to be real fancy. just could use a little help with what materials will be a must have for this type of project, and maybe a good brand of blank for a begginer. thanks for any advice you might have!
