OMG, all I could think was fish today when I found a new spot. I paddled down the river and found an AWSOME creek. A canoe would be too long, and a bass boat (or anything else with a prop) won't make it. I struggle to get over the downed trees. The wood was EXTREMELY thick but just thin enough for my boat. I found hard bottom in the 2-6 ft range. Tons of laydowns, its apparent that nobody has cleared this creek from the hurricanes from years ago, its filled with wood. I'm sure its a phenomenal place during bedding seasoning and topwater as well. I had something big slap at my zoom speed craw twice (think it may have been a mudfish or a bass turning its nose at the last possible second. Also had something big follwing a gambler cane toad. I looked at the water and notice a rather large wake coming from such a small toad and was literally 1-2" away from my bait so I stopped to see the reaction. Instant light bump indicated it was a juvenile gator 3-4 ft. What I loved though so much about this spot was the fact that I could get away from the larger boats and boat traffic on a busy narrow river. Another great aspect was how pristine it was, no site of trash. I didn't catch any bass but can tell its going to be a productive spot for me in the future.
