I caught my first crappie yesterday. It was around 8 inches. Surprisingly, it was caught in one of the neighborhood retention ponds. I was fishing for bass and caught around 8 LM (largest just under 2#). I lost what would have been a PB (around 3#) near the bank when he jumped and shook the hook.

Then I saw the line move and set the hook. Luckily the crappie took the bait deep in the mouth past the "paper" because I tried to cross the fish's eyes. Too my surprise, it was a crappie when I landed him. I just smiled and took a mental picture since I didn't have a camera. Sorry no pics guys. I am hopefully getting a fish cleaner and filet kit for Christmas, so I plan on keeping them next time I go. |
