I need help setting up a home network. I can't seem to get the router and modem to communicate correctly so that we can get online, and after a couple of days messin with this i've decided I need help.....lol. I'm sure i'm just missing something simple, but i'll be damned if I can figure it out.
I've got a D-Link DSL2320B modem hooked up to broadband dsl.....I can connect to the internet just fine by my computer alone(like I am now)...but....when I hook up my Linksys WRT54G router I can no longer get online....or if for some strange reason I do connect, the connection is terribly slow if it works at all. I'm just trying to hook up one computer and the Xbox 360 we got for christmas to the network for now, and may add in a wireless laptop later, but for now both my computer and the Xbox are hard wired into the router. I can get the router to see the computer and Xbox, but thats it. Both the router and modem have default IP's of 192.168.1.1 and I can't help but think this was my problem, so I've tried changing the router to 192.168.2.1 but this didn't help....So i've pretty much exhausted all my networking smarts and need someone smarter than me to help bail me out....lol Do any of you know what I might be doin wrong? |
