I reviewed my journal entries for this past year and "ran the numbers" regarding percentage of fish caught on types of lures. Here are the results:
Crankbaits 30% There was a tie between the DT-6 parrot and DT-6 shad for #1 crankbait award. Stickbaits 25% The best producing stickbait was a 5" Senko in smoke with black and purple flk. The #2 color was firetiger. Live bait 16% Yes, I still use live bait sometimes but only when I am with my 4 year old son. Tubes 10% Without a doubt, this soft plastic fell down the chart this year. There was a time when I really kicked some but with this lure. Not this year. Swimbaits 9% I wasn't throwing the big "California baits" but have some luck on some smaller sized swimmers. Spinnerbaits 5% Not too many on this lure but the ones that I caught were all good sized fish. Hard Jerkbaits 5% A bright pink Husky Jerk accounted for all fish in this category. As a side note, I didn't catch a single fish on topwaters. I love top water action but was quite successful with other presentations during the early morning and evening hours. I generally don't use topwaters during the day. |
