Default If I could just stop…

…over-thinking the situation and buy what I need.

You see, I need to replace a couple of rods that broke. But every time I go to Dick’s, Bass Pro, Cabelas, or wherever, I see spinning combos that cost about the same as a rod by itself. So of course I start looking, touching, turning handles and think to myself; “hell, I might as well get a combo if it’s the same price as that rod I was looking at…”.

The problem is two-fold:
  • The rod alone is usually better than the rod that comes with the combo, and all I really need is a rod.
  • I start burning gas running around to the different stores looking for the best combo for the price of the rod I was willing to spend.

Why can’t I just simply pick up the rod, walk to the checkout and pay for it? Do I have a mental issue? Do most anglers go through this? Or am I just a cheap bassturd?
