I got a little sick on Saturday due to allergies...I couldn't focus my eyes on rod work, and had a 30 dollar home depot card from my Bday...So I got some upgrades done on my work space that Ive been wanting to do for while to make working multiple rods a little easier.
The first thing I wanted to do was elevate my drying area off the table to keep it away from dust, etc while working other rods...Bought a Rubbermaid shelving unit (rated 50lbs) for around 21 bucks....Doing this also makes putting rods in the chuck easier because I can stand and not lean over my jig. I was also able to move it further back...Now I can dry rods up to 8-8 1/2' finally.. ![]() The next thing was to make an automatic epoxy mixer..I had an extra 9rpm motor I bought as a back up. Before I would just flip my drying motor over, attach my home made chuck and auto mix it that way...It works fine, but adds a lot of unnecessary steps..Plus I bought a new chuck for the drying motor,so it was even more of a pain. 8 bucks later at Home depot,I bought a lamp cord with an on/off switch...A 4'' wide L bracket...Two machine nuts......Bent the bracket by hand (like a real man) drill an extra hole...Wired up the cord...and bam!...Auto mixer!..It took me all of 10 minutes to make and the wide L bracket doesn't require a stand under it. ![]() I also ran into a fabric store and bought a spool stand to hold the thread..Before I kept them in a large rubbermaid tub....Which was always a tangled mess. Later on Ill add another dryer and probably more shelving....But for now this should makes things a whole lot easier, and maybe help the next guy in setting up a rod room. ![]()
