Season still isn't open in MN yet, so I'm down in IA (where they don't have a bass season) fishing with my dad and uncle this weekend. I was out solo this morning for just under 2 hours, most of it in the rain. For the first hour-plus, I tossed a Pop-R, buzzbait and dropshot without a sign of any fish. It started to rain pretty hard, so I packed up all my stuff and was going to head back to town, but by the time I had it all in my vehicle, the rain had almost stopped. So, I decided to stick around and fish some more and try a new bait -- the "Zoomie" as shared by Mac (see this thread for Zoomie details).
I got it all rigged up on my dropshot rod and headed back to the dock for more casting. On my second cast with the Zoomie, I landed a tiny little 10.5" LM -- cool, a sign of life! A few minutes later I hooked into my first decent bass of the year -- 16.5" and an even 3.0 on my scale. I am now a Zoomie-addict (I had 4 other bites that I missed, not sure they were all bass though). Thanks, Mac!!! Here are two quick pics I took before the release: ![]() ![]() |
