I'm planning to get out this comming saturday. Normally I'd know exactly what I would be planning to do. However this has been a crazy spring. Two weeks ago we were experiencing record highs after a bitter long cold spring set everything back. I'm pretty sure the spawn should have begun but I havn't been on the water here in 3 weeks. I'm guessing the water temps are in the mid sixties. However, the past couple days have been cold and very rainy. We recieved about 2 inches of rain last night alone. Now tonight the temps are dropping into the mid 30's with lots of wind. Tomorrow and saturday are supposed to cloudy and cool with high temps in the low 60's with nightly temps dropping to around 40. I'll be fishing a small naturally formed lake of about 87 acres. There are both shallow flats, and deep water in this lake. No creak beds or anything like that. Last year I found the bass thick in shallow lilly pad fields and did very well with 5" soft bodies swimbaits. I'm still going to try that, but if that fails, what then? Normally the bass are in spawn mode here and it carries over into June. For those who don't know, I'm located up in northern Indiana a stones throw from Lake Michigan. Normally our days have been warm and pleasent for some time now. But with the exception of 5 day, it's been cold and rainy. Even the lilacs are blooming about 2 weeks late.
