help with catfish on a jig.
fishing today, i caught 5 bass, but while i was leaving i see this huge head of a catfish come out from under a rockpile. i put a jig with a craw trailer on andtryto catch him the best i could. what others lures would of worked better? I know you should use live bait for these, but i need to know what i should of done in case i dont have any like today.
thanks... |

I'd say the cat may have not been able to smell a scent and was in a non aggressive mood. I've caught cats on spinnerbaits, worms, and crankbaits,
but I believe that these were aggressive cats on the hunt. I'm guessing that IF the cat could smell a bait but was not in a feeding mode, you may have provoked a strike...next time you see one, catch a bluegill on a small hook and either cut its head off and use that or the entire bluegill, and put it in front of the cat..if he's still there.. |

Get a flyrod with a small yellow popper. Kills the 'gill every time. Thats what I'm gonna play with this week!

tb, why do you want to catch a cat while bass fishing? I've caught them on cranks, jigs, worms, and had one break off at the boat on a dinger a couple weeks ago. Slimy critters-I'll pass. Unless I'm specifically fishing for them, which I haven't done in years.

That isn't final and probably won't be. As Lizards stated the size of Cats to crappie isn't close. Just looking for an alternative to crappie as it is a difficult fish to catch and not everywhere. |
