A short stop at BPS tonight.
I picked up a couple things at BPS I'm looking foreward to trying out. I picked up a Berkley 30 pound digital lip grip scale. I can only hope I hang into something thats worth weighing! lol I've never used this type of scale but it should be fairly accuarte and if I hook into a large toothy creature the lip grip feature should come in handy.
The second item I purchased was a pack of Strike King Rage Shads in black neon. I've never used the Rage Shads but have been tempted to for a year now. With all the buzz frog I have I've always put it off, but I'm going to give them a workout this weekend I hope. I think the black neon color will be a good color for most situations. Wish I'd had that scale last weekend! |

Have fun with those rage tails. First time I saw them was in a buddy's tackle box, and thought they looked like a TV gimmick lure... til he started burning em up with it. these things will kill bass in the slop...

I've always wondered is there any advantage to the Rage Shad over the Rage Toad (or any soft plastic frog)...
Keith, I've got the same lip grips and I use them quite a bit. I'm sure you'll love em. They come in handy when you get toothy fish on. We bought them the night after I caught my 42" Musky. Good think, I landed a 32" one the next day with them. BB

Kieth i like the rage shads but I toss them in white , I also will put them on a weighted hook and swim them a couple inches under the surface of the water and that works great to .

The weighted hook sounds like a good idea. I've done that with the Rage Monkey I believe it's called. Works good at times.

Monkey is calling me bad since I lost the sideplate off my Premier. I haven't even bought any new lures in over a month. Maybe a trip to Gander MT and Dick's tomorrow.

Those spring lock hooks work good. I do have a small problem with them due to arthritis in my fingers. I bought center pin spring locks to use in place of regular spring locks or just plain hooks. Easier to start the baits with the center pin.

Absolutely easier with the centering pin. The only hooks I use with spring keepers are Owners because of that. I know I could buy them and replace other spring keepers, but I like Owners anyways. BB

I've not used the Shads much but from what I've seen they are even louder and more obnoxious than the toads. I really like the toads when it is windy and the water isn't glass. |

The rage tail shad make a he** of a commotion . And they have a smaller profile so I have found the hookup ratio to be a little better Jim

By the way "a short stop at BPS tonight"....
Famous last words! When I go to BPS, I wander around wide eyed like a kid in a candy store. It is only a poor pocketbook that keeps my monkey at bay.

I thaught throwing out all my bass gear would stop the monkey. But it's worse now as a full time fly fishermen. Simple little orvis reels cost 3 times what i paid for a baitcaster. I tie all my my own flies. I've tied over 300 flies. I get a pattern & i tie a Dozen of that pattern. As a fly tyer with lot's of hackle all i have to do is go in the kitchen & tie the latest rage. So when the bait monkey get's on my back it doesn't mean spending money. But when i do ohh brother. I see in my future real soon a 4wt Orvis Hydros with a gold Mirage fly reel. Better stop dreaming before it turns into a Helios Not a Hydros. OHH GOD O SCARED!!!!

Check out the Redington crosswater combo you get a 4piece 9ft 8wt with a reel, backing, flyline & your first leader. All for about about a 125.00. I have this rod for an 8wt. But i have an english BFR reel loaded with a floating Rio line.
