Default New $500 Abu reel

If only these reels were worth something relative to the price that they're made for. They made a new REVO, its even lighter than the MGX, called the MGXTREME. Looks like a heck of a reel. What do yall think?

Looks awesome to me and reminds of the Daiwa T3 Air. Props to AG for breaking of 5oz barrier.

Curious to see how it compares to the Pixy.

Cool but I'd be more interested in the new STX 8.0:1. Weighs less and takes in 33 inches per turn. I have 1st issue STX HS and it's a darn good reel. Might wait till a 20%off sale and grab one.

Breaking the 5oz mark is quite impressive. Gotta say though, I don't like the round EVA knobs. AG's normal EVA knobs are very nice though. I don't know why, but the reel looks cheap to me... maybe the silver trim around the level wind system, IDK. Kinda makes it look like one of the AG Pro series casting reels.

Sammy, the T3 Air looks killer! They don't look it, but the T3 reels are pretty darn comfortable in hand. Still around the weight of a Steez and probably gonna be some really big $$$

8.0:1 sounds impressive, but with a rate of 33" IPT it really just marketing hype for those who don't care to pay attention to the IPT rating. There's some 7:1 reels pulling 33" and I believe Quantum may have that beat (34"?)

It is a nice looking reel. My problem with it is the price tag. I just cannot justify paying that much for a reel. I try to stay in the $100-150 range for the very top end. Right now I do not have any need for a new reel. Notice I said NEED, not WANT

Yea, I noticed the 33ipt. I just happen to like the STX HS I have and went ahead and bought the new one. I did pay attention, thanks.

My question is how much better is the $499 reel vs the Prem vs the STX and is it worth the extra $$$$??? My thinking is it isn't that much better than the less expensive reels to be worth the cost......

I suspect you'd be paying for the extreme weight reduction and the 4.9oz stat rather than an actual performance upgrade. However, if they lightened up the spool considerably, then you would see better casting performance, especially with lighter lures.

Lew's provides some pretty powerful "buck bang" in your price range.

Okoboji, they sure do, but I have really jumped on the BPS Pro Qualifier reel bandwagon. Couple of weeks back I was throwing a lipless crank bait with one and really got "in the zone"-the rod, reel, line, and bait all came together and it felt like I was throwing perfection. It just all came together.

Reb...that made me smile I've got a couple of rod/reel/line/lure combinations that give me that same "invincable" feeling.

Along those lines

Every now and then you just get in the zone, and it don't get much better than that.

If you send in an old Abu Garcia Reel to Pure Fishing they'll deduct 45% off the retail price of a new reel. I've sent 5 Abu 521's in for trade. It's no gimmick. Call em and ask about their trade in deals. I've put this on here before.
