Default Tips on cleaning a reel....

I am looking for a good source on cleaning a shimano reel and using reel oil and grease in the correct locations. I have a curado model. Can someone point me the right direction. I have looked for a thread on it, probably over looked it, and didn't see it. Thanks in advance.

Curado maintenace & drag upgrade

DO NOT GREASE the worm gear, itīs exposed to the elements and will trap everything which will cause abrassion and shorten the life of the guide pawl.

I use Abu Garcia silicote oil on the line pawl assembly. Its a bit thicker oil than your standard reel oil.You don't want to use grease as Raul stated.P N J

As a Shimano Curado owner myself, I have found that if I just spray my reels periodically with healthy dose of Reel Magic, and then give the reel a good inspection and wiping off the visual residue of dirt and or grime, my reels seem to last two or three years without needing any inside maintenance. Using strictly shimano's now for the past 13 years, I bet I have only taken only 5 or 6 of them in for cleaning/repairs.

TXLady, I sure they are sparkling clean, read your posts about our boat cleanliness, when you first came to the site. I would rather think when one sprays the outside of the reels down, some of the excess dirt and debri will bleed to the inside of the reel with the spray solution ?If one doesn't clean the inner reel at least once a year, failure of the reels function, or just general poor performance of the reel could happen over a period of time.Look up Lake Fork reel service,They are super people to deal with whether its just general questions, or reel service, they are first class. I appreciate your support there partner, but I think "anal" is going a tad bit far.....
I'd say it's really a testiment to the quality of the Shimano product, I don't have to worry about my reels, "they get greased when they start squeakin"

"Pnj makes note : never buy reels from bittersweet. P N J"

I'd have to be on pretty hard times to sell one of my Shimanos , but if I did, it would be in good working order. I would most likely have it cleaned professionally before selling it. Unless you where the buyer, cause I know you would open it up immediately and clean it yourself....

JackL,Its great to see you here.

Betursweet, read Jackl's signature and then take the necessary measures to modify your post. I ain't waiting for you to sell your reels, I am on a mission to reconstruct my arsenal before the new bass season starts. P N J
