Identification of Plants
Could you identify these plants. I think I'll be adding more pictures in the future.
1. 2. 3. 4. Thanks |

You should post this on the non-fishing related forum... but anyways the first oen looks like [and take note i have no idea the scientific names] grass, the second is some kinda plant from the vine family... maybe even related to lilly pads.. the third is some sort of hydrilla family plant, and the last is some kinda immature form of i'd guess the second picture. but again... these are slightly educated guesses, i might be way off...

the name of the first hydrilla picture listed is called
the second picture is just another version of hydrilla as are the rest of the pictures You may hear common names like coontail for the above. |

Just associate what capn mike called them and it will be easy to remember.
But more importantly is when you see these weeds its a good area to hunt bass in verses a bare bank. |

Alright. On my local muddy lake with only one foot of visibility today, there is nowhere you can go without seeing what Capt.Mike calls Milfoil. It's thick all over.

I agree that #1 looks like eelgrass. #2 might be white-stemmed pondweed, at least the picture resembles it. With all due respect to Mike, it is nowhere even close to duckweed, unless there are differing regional names. Duckweed is a non-rooted floating plant with tiny leaves that form dense mats.

As far as Milfoil it is the first out in the spring and will replace beds of Hydrilla over time. It is salt resistant and grows slower that most plants.. But it is a great SAV as it binds the soil and is hardy.. Capt Mike
