I cannot for the life of me figure out the proper way to tie a drop-shot rig! Here's what I've been using component-wise:

Lunk, you are probably missing one small but critical step:
When you tie the Palomar knot take the end of the line you are going to add the weight to and run it back through the eye of the hook when the hook is pointing up. When the rig is in the air it doesn't look like it is hanging right, but it does hang right in the water. http://www.insideline.net/2001/battisti-0102-01.html
