Loose Rivet Repair Experiences
A few days ago I finished up sealing all of my loose rivets with some 3m 5200. Then I painted over it with some standard aluminum paint. Filled her up with water and let it sit for a bit, didnt see a single drop. Now I wonder how well it will hold up at 45mph in the water.
Has anyone else done this? I'm only looking for a seasons worth of watertight repair as I intend to be in a newer boat next year. Please share your experiences with repairing your loose rivets so I know what to look for and expect, thanks! |

I am a little unfamiliar with the product you used. Rivets in general have a bad name, but I don't mind them that much. Yes they will leak from time to time, and usually any fix besides welding is going to be temporary, but its one of those things that you live with - keep a thing of epoxy in the boat and a bucket in the back just in case.
A question for you though, you said 45 mph - how big is your boat? What do you have pushing it? That is pretty darn fast for a riveted boat. Flexing in the hull can loosen seams, I am actually dealing with that myself right now.

Its a 1990 Bass Tracker Tournament TX17....17 foot with a 60HP Johnson pushin

Yes nonpoint the 5200 will do fine. Prolly out last any other repair you could have done.
