Organizing Crankbaits
I am in the process of organizing my crankbait containers. I am listing the dive depth with a sharpie on the bottom side of the lip. I would also like to list tight wiggle , or wide wiggle to develop a seasonal side to the process. I am also keeping the baits in order , shallow , mid , deep. I plan to fish local tournaments within the next year or two and wondered if anyone had any other good ideas for organizing for faster lure change.

Are you organizing by color, or just dividing them by depth and action? I don't have a large enough collection that I need to, but you might.

I could do color , but really didnt think about that. I just want to open my container and know its summer ( tight wiggle ? ) and I want to fish down to 8' , so I could grab what I needed in 5 seconds or less..someone on here had a good idea about marking the bottom of the crank with lines to show how many fish have been caught with the perticular crankbait , I may do that as well.

I organize my crankbaits by depth. I have four boxes and these are the categories:
0-5' 5-9' 9'-12' 12'+ and lipless |

Thye don't hold a lot, and are quite expensive, but I really like the Falcon crankbait boxes. I never have enough money to buy the whole bag w/ boxes sets, so everytime, I've got an extra 15 bucks at BPS or wherever, I get one box. After I've got a few, I'll get a bag.

I just organize mine by depth that they run, and by model. There is one slight problem i have with organizing them by season, and that is that the bass don't alway play by the book... so something that is supposed to work in summer is not necessarily going to work in the summer. A tighter wiggling bait will give you more of a finesse approach to cranking, and sometime that is what is needed on highly pressured lakes or ultra clear waters. I just do mine by depth and model, a simple system, and i know where everything is... hasn't failed me yet.

i have some bags with the boxes that i only use when trasporting tackle from one boat to another. instead i just put my crankbaits in the box that is the most easily accesable. and then i put it in the compartment of my boat that has the most room. that way when im in the heat of the moment of a tourny i can bang around the boat for five minutes looking for the bait of choice. and by the time the tourny is over i have tackle strewn about the boat and my competitors cant tell what i caught my fish on when they look in the boat. Its not a perfect system but im working on it.

i devide my crankbaits into 2 catagories, < 10' and > 10'. i also mark the running depth on the crankbaits with a sharpie. i keep all crankbaits in the correct boxes and keep them seperated by colors. i end up with several crankbait boxes but it is a lot faster for me to find what i want this way.

Well , got the boxes done , one box up to 8' one box over 8'. I also used trash ties cut into smaller strips to tie the hooks together for better management.

I've got a mix method. Some by brand and some by depth or type and my go to box.
Got my Baby 1's, Norman's, Bandit's in seperate boxes. Got my deep diving box mix. My 'trap box. Jerkbait box. Got my "go to" mix. Then I've got a couple boxes of mixed sizes and brands. |
