Haha. I'm giddy right now, as I just dropped a chunk of change on a Humminbird 1197c SI.
I have a big screen TV in my house, and now I have a big screen for my boat!!! 10.4" screen and side-imaging, BABY!! ![]() ![]() ![]() All I need now is a RAM mount and my hotmaps platinum chip. (Well, that and for the UPS truck to show up...I'm gonna be like a little kid who hears the ice cream truck!!!)

Man, you wasn't kidding were you! Congrats, hope they don't get stuck in the snow or pack it in a rod tube.

I thought they came with the RAM mount? Anyways congratulations on your new crown lol. Those SI units are really a cool bit of technology.

Congrats NFE, I just can't justify that much money on a sonar. But if you're thinking of a RAM mount for that large of a unit look at this, YES it's a RAM.
I had this mount on my previous boat and it's rock solid. My present boat I went with the "normal" ball mount RAM and it's only holding a Lowrance 5200 GPS and it vibrates quite a bit at WOT. This mount is a bit more expensive, but well worth it. Available at Cabelas. Also comes in a verticle mount version should you not have a flat surface on which to mount it. |

Thanks, Boogie. I've seen that kind before, and I was intending to use it, or something very much like it. The bolt pattern on the base of that one looks like a very close match to the one I have now, so I'm hoping it would be a direct swap. God knows, this thing has some surface area, so it needs to be bolted down tight if you're going to go fast.
Maybe I can qualify for a "green" credit, since my boat now has a sail? ![]()

No, but I'm planning on a near-fatal case of bass thumb this year. I may need a prosthetic.

Got to get my money back from Uncle Sam and I'll be adding a new depth finder too. Maybe not that one but one very similar.
ps There are ways around the chip expense....wink, wink. |

Congrats. I figured a engineer had planned everything, but it might be a good time to also review your insurance coverage before adding it to the boat.

Very good point, Cass. With all the other crap I've bought to boot, it's a real issue.

Nice job NFE!!
As for the Ram Mount did you get the 2 1/4" ball? My TX partner has two of the HDS-10's and has a large and small arm with the large ball. Even all the way tight they will still drop (well we were in 3+ foot waves too!) |

Congrats, it will open up a whole new world of off shore structure. On my 997 I have the one size down from the 2 1/4" ball RAM mount. Mine stayed in place most of the time but I wish I had the big one to stop the shaking in big waves. The other thing I have seen is using two of them, which I might do this winter. I saw a smaller one off the the side going straight down for extra support on some pro's boat.
